Vital Water
Water is a vital part of human existence. Without it none could survive. We drink it, cook with it, and bathe in it. Yet, we often take this life source for granted, ingesting whatever clear liquid comes out of our faucet or out of our water bottles. And -- whether it is safe to drink or not -- we have to pay for it. Now we are forced to remove chlorine from tap water in order to be free of its damaging health effects.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to own a healthy water system. We once used an Eden Five Stage Alkalizing Reverse Osmosis (RO) system — which is designed to eliminate toxins and boost the ph level with minerals and oxidation reduction potential. Since that model is not longer available, we recommend an iSpring 6-Stage RO System with a Remineralization Cartridge or a Berkey Water Filter with a Fluoride Filter.
Unsafe Water
Recently, due to our own failure to change the filters on time, our RO system was producing chlorinated water. We immediately ceased drinking it and switched to our Brita filter (until we could replace the filters in our RO). Due to circumstances beyond our control — we were forced to drink the water longer than anticipated.
Several weeks later I was in uncomfortable pain. I felt as though I had the flu —without the fever. My tailbone was aching for days and sending shooting pains down my legs. I ached from my waist down and had to cancel some of my social plans.
Happened Before
That's when I remembered feeling this same way before — like I had the flu but without the fever. It had happened about three years ago when I lived in Bristol, Virginia. Our water filter had been on the fritz then too — and we had been drinking spring water that tested a ph level of 5, which is super acidic. When I found out about the acidity, I added baking soda to the water and immediately felt 50% improved. Within 2 days I was completely recovered. That is when we started using alkalizing filters for our drinking water. But that was years ago. And it started happening again.
Once I realized that our water was suspect for my current symptoms, I immediately tested the Brita water. It too had a ph level around 5. My body was in a state of acidosis. I took some baking soda for balance and bought some artesian spring water from Trader Joe's that has a ph around 8.5. I was improved within 24 hours.
Next we ordered and replaced our water filters, but for some reason the unit was still producing small amounts of chlorine. Trader Joe's is not just down the road — but an hour out of town, so I couldn't just take a trip to the store to buy more water, besides it is expensive. Instead I did some research to find ways to remove chlorine from water naturally.
Remove Chlorine from Tap Water Naturally
With a little research and a little experimentation, I discovered that Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) alters the chemical make-up of chlorine, changing it into a form that is safe for consumption.
We still worked with the Eden Filter company to get our Eden RO system back up to par — they worked hard to help us troubleshoot the problem. In the meantime, I added Grapefruit Seed Extract to remove chlorine from tap water that I first filter. One drop of GSE works to accomplish this. If you want to remove chlorine from tap water, try 1-3 drops per gallon — though I still wouldn't drink it unless it was an emergency. Read why here: Drinking Tap Water Could Be the Final Straw That Destroys Your Health.
The power of GSE is great when you are in a pinch. Most people don't carry a water filter around everywhere they go, but Grapefruit Seed Extract fits into the purse. With one to three drops per gallons, it will not affect the taste of the water. And it is pretty reasonably priced and it has tons of additional benefits.
