The above infographic (used by permission) shows many of the benefits associated with intermittent fasting.
The previous method of fasting to heal the digestive glands involved working up slowly to a 36 hour fast. Portions of that method could easily be implemented in the following plan by Dr. Mercola to acclimate the body slowly and lessen the symptoms commonly associated with fasting (headache, hunger, fatigue, low blood sugar).
Intermittent Fasting to Heal Your Digestive Glands
Mercola advocates Intermittent fasting, a type of fasting that limits the daily eating hours to a 6-8 hour window without restricting calories. Food is only eaten between the hours of 10am to 6pm or 12pm to 8pm for example. During the remaining hours you would abstain from food.
This type of fasting involves a daily lifestyle change in eating habits. Nonetheless, it offers plenty of time to rest the digestive system, giving it the opportunity to heal over time.
Mercola recommends this type of fasting only be done if you are already engaged in a healthy diet. I would add that you should also have an exercise routine already in place as well.
Please visit Mercola's website for more information on this type of fast.
