The Song that Can Change the World
Lyrics with the blueprint for freedom and peace with music that reaches the soul
Hello friends,
I’m so excited about a new song I just completed that has the power to change the world. Here’s how it all started.
Years ago, pastor Randy Martin encouraged his congregation to write new lyrics to the Old One Hundredth. The challenge inspired me to write “Join in the Chorus; Enjoy the King” to the tune of “Blessed Assurance.”1
The song was well-received.
Later, when Pastor Martin preached through Ephesians, I was asked to write a hymn that corresponded with the text. I agreed. This time, I enlisted my musical husband and daughter to create an original tune — and “Every Blessing in the Heavens” was born.2
Years later, members of the congregation still approached me to find out if I had written any new songs. The answer was no.
Until now.
Piano Changed Everything
Unexpectedly, I started taking piano lessons from my daughter’s childhood piano teacher. The interest had been there for years. However, I couldn’t justify spending the time (sound familiar?). Yet, God worked in my heart and stirred me to take a step of faith.
As I was learning Vivaldi’s Spring theme from the Four Seasons, lyrics started pouring into my heart and mind. I began to write them directly into my lesson book.
While working on the first verse, I asked my piano teacher about copyright issues since I was working from an arrangement of the original. She said I had nothing to worry about from a copyright perspective, and I was free to legally use the music as I desired. I made some minor changes, added a few chords, and found a free notation software called Crescendo — which is amazing and intuitive — to write out the words and music.
I later upgraded to the professional version of the software to keep everything legal.
A Work in Progress
My musical husband suggested a few tweaks to the lyrics, which I incorporated.
Soon, I had a second verse and a third written.
More verses continued to ruminate in my heart and mind. But then, my mind went blank. I had zero inspiration to write any new verses. I had resolved to call my WIP complete at three verses.
Then, out of the blue, a fourth verse came and finally a fifth. However, something wasn’t right. Turns out the last verse was the crowning glory of the song, but it didn’t work at the end of the piece. So I stuck it in the middle and it solved everything.
Then, the perfectionist in me came out and I whittled words until the whole song made my heart sing.
Now that the song is complete, I want to share it with all who are willing to sing it.
While it was still a WIP, paid subscribers had the opportunity to preview the lyrics and share their thoughts so I might incorporate them into the final product.
Now, I’m releasing the song to everyone. And I remain open to feedback.
How This Song Can Change the World
Without sounding boastful, I want to explain why I believe this song can change the world. First, it’s not because of anything that I have done. Everything in this song reflects the heart of the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ — something I believe many Christian churches have lost (even those that consider themselves orthodox).
It’s also the subject of the book I’m in the process of writing (i.e., a defense for the hope that is within me).
You may be wondering, “What part of the gospel has the Church of Jesus Christ lost?”
Sadly, the church has mostly lost the idea that the good news of Jesus Christ is meant to change culture, establish peace, and cause righteousness to fill the earth. It’s this simple: as we teach nations to obey His law (Matthew 28:18-20) — God blesses (Genesis 22:18, etc.).
Obedience Brings Blessings to Earth
God’s heart is to bless the whole earth.
He loves His children and the world He has created (Genesis 1:31; John 3:16).
God hates Satan and his wicked schemes — and He is in the process of destroying them (1 Corinthians 15:25).
God will destroy the works of the devil in time and space (that’s why Christ came the first time - see 1 John 3:8).
And it happens as God answers our prayers that His will be done “on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
The power of the cross (Colossians 1:20) and the zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish it (Isaiah 9:6-7).
And Christ has commissioned the church to work with Him (Matthew 28:18-20).
That is the mission of God and the purpose of the church (Ephesians 1:22; Colossians 1:18).
And we’ve lost it.
But it’s coming back. It has to. God will not grow tired or weary until He has done it, and the coastlands will wait for His law (Isaiah 42:4).
